Specialising in the qualification and reliability of insurers’ accounting and financial data, Apidata is now moving into the real-time data exploitation: ‘We provide insurers with a central decision-making tool that is fluid, automated and sovereign,’ explains Michel Ramos, technical director and co-founder of this insurtech company. It is a veritable cockpit that allows them to manage all of their activities.
L’Argus de l’assurance: From data qualification to exploitation – what does that mean in practice?
Michel Ramos: Since its creation in 2012, Apidata’s mission has been to provide insurers with a business solution for Middle Office management of all data flows: this involves capturing and standardising all management data, regardless of its source or format. This gives insurers a secure, consolidated view of their entire portfolio, even and especially if they outsource the management of certain activities. We have therefore developed a comprehensive ecosystem of solutions for collecting and enriching data, analysing it, managing and securing user access, and more. We saw exploitation as a natural extension of this ecosystem. To this end, we have developed two new modules.
Which ones, and for what purpose?
The first, API FIN, is a sub-ledger accounting tool that provides insurers with a daily view of financial flows, assets under management, commissions owed to delegated managers, and more. It ensures a realistic and consistently balanced view of financial flows.
The second is API DASHBOARD: a central steering tool that enables navigation between all modules. It gives insurers a technical, operational, and financial overview of all activities. A highly powerful tool, it even supports the calculation of provisions.
Why is such a cockpit important for insurers?
By consolidating all information into this control cabin, insurers can significantly shorten the time required to close financial statements and move towards the ideal of fast closing. At any point, they can know exactly where they stand financially and in accounting terms, including activities under delegated management. The tool also makes it possible to monitor and score the quality of data produced by management delegates.
Is this more valuable for insurers or for management delegates?
Both! For insurers, these are additional tools that strengthen internal controls. They also foster a virtuous circle in relations with management delegates: financial operations are settled more smoothly, and any anomalies are quickly identified. Management delegates are therefore immediately alerted in case of an issue.
Moreover, their management commissions are calculated faster, meaning they are paid more quickly.
Apidata comes from the health insurance sector. Do you plan to extend your activities to property and casualty, to the wider insurance ecosystem – or even beyond?
Our scope already covers the whole of personal insurance: health, protection, but also savings and retirement. We will remain within the insurance ecosystem, serving risk carriers. That said, Apidata’s industrial approach can be applied across all insurance branches, including property and casualty.
We provide a fluid, automated and fully configurable solution that allows every line of business to work with the same standards of data quality. Technical teams can therefore interact more easily with commercial teams, the finance department or claims management.
And insurers benefit from a centralised cockpit for managing their activities, all built on the same data universe: an operational and sovereign tool – which is no small advantage.
